The list of physiological benefits of sunlight exposure is a long one. Soaking up your rays on a regular basis can increase your energy, help you to sleep better, and improve your mental health Because difficult working hours and indoor, sedentary lifestyles can lead many people to spend most of their day hidden away from the sun, new technologies have been popping up over the years to help address the deficit. Even artificial lighting that mimics sunlight can help to improve your mood. In the new Volvo EX90, you can experience a little hint of masterfully crafted sunlight to help you start your day with Volvo’s new near-sunlight interior lighting.

Perk up a miserable morning commute with this new feature. This is the definition of premium, your vehicle’s interior lit by a full suite of 72 SunLike LED lights that mimic natural sunlight and help you to enjoy a more positive start to your day.

Our designers wanted to help our customers connect more fully with day and night, and the flow of nature, so they set out to create this one of a kind technology. The SunLike LEDs, supplied by Seoul Semiconductor, work together with the panoramic roof and open cabin to create warm, natural-feeling light. These non-flicker LEDs are able to provide a more natural color expression than other LED lights on the market today, delivering low light reflection and a high color index to mirror what you see in nature more faithfully.

“By utilizing the spectrum of light emitted from the SunLike LEDs, the progressive materials and interior design of the Volvo EX90 stand out more clearly and without color distortion,” says Dan Fidgett, Head of Colour & Materials. “Complementing our wood deco and other natural materials inside the cabin, the lights are central to our Scandinavian design language”.

These SunLike lights are already being used in interior locations like residential spaces, hospitals, schools, museums and horticultural applications, helping to supply natural light in indoor settings. The Volvo Car Group is the first to experiment with these lights in vehicles, introducing them to the Polestar 3 and the Volvo EX90. By replacing the interior lights of these vehicles with SunLike lights, Volvo is helping to improve life for drivers, reducing the eye strain and headaches often associated with artificial light sources.

“The wellbeing of our customers is always a main focus for interior design at Volvo Cars. Bringing in SunLike LEDs to the interior of the Volvo EX90 is another illustration of our ambition to bring in innovative technology to deliver a renewed premium in-car experience for our customers,” says Dan Fidgett.
