Last month, the new Volvo EX90 was revealed for the first time in North America at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The vehicle represents a new era in safety for the company and is a true seven-seater all-electric SUV that sets a higher standard in safety and sustainability. The EX90 embraces Swedish design heritage while also reflecting a global footprint, and is planned to be built in South Carolina starting later this year.
The EX90 is designed as a highly advanced computer on wheels and features collaborations with tech companies such as Google and Luminar to deliver smarter, safer, and more sustainable driving. The standard level of safety in the EX90 is higher than any previous Volvo car and is designed to understand the driver and its surroundings to keep everyone on the road safer. The car will also get smarter over time with over-the-air updates.
The EX90 is equipped with an array of sensors including lidar, radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors that help prevent dangerous driving situations. The interior features a 14.5-inch center screen that offers access to one of the best infotainment systems with Google apps and services built-in. The EX90 is also compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay.
The Volvo EX90's electric SUV boasts the same 111 kWh battery and pair of permanent magnet motors as the Polestar 3. The company has not disclosed the EX90's EPA-rated range, however, during its global launch in Europe, an estimated range of 372 miles (600 km) was reported. The Polestar 3, with the same battery and motors, has an estimated range of 300 miles, so the EX90's range should be relatively similar.
The EX90 also features a twin electric motor setup with a combined power of 380 kW (510 HP) and torque of 617 lb-ft (910 Nm), matching the Polestar 3's Performance Pack. The speed and acceleration figures for the EX90 have not been disclosed by Volvo, but based on the Polestar 3, which boasts a 4.6 second 0-60 mph time and a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h), we can expect similar performance from the EX90.
