Changes to the 2018 Volvo S90

The new 2018 Volvo S90 models are the long-wheelbase body style that was previously unavailable in the United States. The regular-wheelbase S90 is no longer offered, but the T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain and other features are now standard. The S90 is luxurious, featuring numerous interior amenities. The infotainment interface is vertically oriented and easy to use.

The 2018 Volvo S90 is offered in either Momentum or Inscription trim levels. You also have the choice of three powerplants: T5 models, T6 models, or T8 models. The base T5 trim can now be had with all-wheel drive. The T5 Momentum includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, LED fog lights, panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and more. The T6 Momentum comes with heated front seats. The Inscription model adds a tailored dashboard, power-operated sun curtains for the rear and rear side windows, upper door panels, and more.

How the Volvo S90 Came to Be

As mentioned earlier, the Volvo S90 is not related to models with the same name from over a decade ago. Instead, you will get a better idea of its history by looking at the Volvo S80. The 1998 S80 was the first with this name. It started off with the latest technology, including a GSM phone integrated into the vehicle. It was also powerful with a 6-cylinder engine.

In 1999, the S80 got dual-stage airbags and then in 2000, enhanced traction control, Emergency Brake Assistance and an emergency trunk release handle were added. For 2002, the S80 received a new gauge cluster to match the redesigned grille, door panels and fascias. Volvo added the Blind Spot Information system to the S80 in 2003, ahead of its time. Other major updates were made to the Volvo S80 in 2005, 2010, and 2014. However, the S80 disappeared in 2016 to make room for its replacement, the Volvo S90.
