Power

The Volvo XC90 has a base turbocharged 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine that puts out 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Top-of-the-line in the power department is the T8 hybrid trim that comes with a twin-charged engine that works with two electric motors to generate 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. With the Ford Explorer, you can get a 365 horsepower 3.0-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine that offers 380 pound-feet of torque. The Audi Q7 has the least power of the bunch for its base engine; can give you 248 horsepower from its 2.0-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, along with 273 pound-feet of torque.

Space and Comfort

The Volvo XC90 seats up to seven people with plenty of leg- and headroom in all three rows. Synthetic leather upholstery and 10-way power-adjustable front seats are standard. Heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats can also be added. As for cargo space, the Volvo XC90 offers 85.7 cubic feet when both rear seats are folded, which is very impressive for a luxury midsize SUV. The Ford Explorer also seats seven, but the headroom is lacking in the third row. Cloth upholstery is standard, but leather requires an upgrade. The Ford Explorer also has good overall cargo room: 87.8 cubic feet. The three-row Audi Q7 fits seven people as well on standard leather-upholstered seats. Eight-way power-adjustable front seats are also standard, but a 12-way option is available. Like the Ford Explorer, the third row in the Audi Q7 is rather cramped. Another downside is its cargo space; when both back rows are down, you will only get 71.6 cubic feet.
