Volvo recently announced that, with the automaker’s collaboration with Starbucks, the companies will be installing EV charging stations in the United States at select Starbucks locations. Essentially, these are the very first Starbucks stores where new ChargePoint electric vehicle (EV) chargers will become available to customers and members of the public, which is all part of both companies’ dedication to a sustainable future.
This effort between the two companies will help EV users have a safe, familiar, and comfortable place to charge their vehicles. The larger installation project directly involves ChargePoint, which is the pre-existing network that offers support for the DC chargers that will be placed at specific locations along a 1,350-mile route that spans from the Colorado front range and the Starbucks headquarters in Seattle.
The first two Starbucks stores to get the new EV chargers are located in Provo, Utah, and Grand Junction, Colorado (if you have the opportunity, Provo is also renowned for its stellar standup comedy shows at Dry Bar Comedy.) At the Provo location (East Bay — University & 9th, 979 S University Ave.), 4 of these EV fast chargers are already installed and are going through finalized testing to ensure easy access and charging. They will be officially activated by the end of this month!
Additional cities that will host new ChargePoint DC fast chargers at Starbucks stores include Seattle, Boise, Salt Lake City, and Denver. And then there’s the great outdoors.
“From the Snoqualmie Pass in Washington, stretching the Snake River in Idaho, spanning Arches National Park in Utah and connecting outdoor destinations like Park City and Vail, the route represents the American road trip at its best.”
After the chargers are installed according to these plans, by the end of 2022 there will likely be one ChargePoint fast charger every 100 miles for convenient access wherever you travel along the above route.
While all EV drivers that own a vehicle that’s compatible with a standard CCS1 or CHAdeMO receptacle will be able to use these stations for a fee, drivers of Volvo Cars will get the benefit of having access to these stations at either no cost or at preferential rates.
While Volvo Cars is already working hard to become a fully electric car company by 2030, Starbucks is also reimagining the store experience for greater connection, ease of access, and a more planet-positive impact. The company continues to rapidly expand its roster of renewable energy and decarbonization projects in the U.S in support of its global goal to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 percent by 2030.
