The Scandinavian appeal of Volvo Cars has long been a driving force behind the brand, and it’s no longer going to be limited to just cars! The aura of the great Swedish outdoors can now come straight into your home thanks to Volvo’s recent collaboration with New York-based fragrance brand D.S. & Durga. Together, they have created a unique and limited edition scent named SWOODISH.
 

Named with a playful portmanteau of the words “Swedish” and “woods,” SWOODISH was developed to create an olfactory experience of the beauty of Sweden’s natural environment, combining the scents of grounding woods, orris roots, and late summer sunsets. For D.S. & Durga, the fragrance is quickly becoming iconic.

 

D.S. & Durga was founded by  husband-and-wife duo David Seth Moltz and Kavi Ahuja Moltz. Their work transcends the typical bounds of the fragrance industry, creating unconventional scents that take inspiration from art, music, literature and history to tell stories, encapsulate atmospheres, and convey emotions.

 

“The sensory ambiance in our cars draws from the inspiration from nature and Scandinavian excellence in light. In collaboration with D.S. & Durga, we developed a natural scented candle called SWOODISH to bring the ambient warmth of a Scandinavian forest into your home”, said Lisa Reeves, head of interior design at Volvo Cars.

 

The Moltzes took a visit to Gothenburg, Sweden to create the SWOODISH scent, immersing themselves in the culture and simple, minimalist design approach that Sweden is known for.

 

“We visited Volvo Cars in Sweden and were whisked away to mythical vistas – both inside rare, vintage vehicles which were sniffed, and outsite in quaint forests and lakes all over the country,” said David Seth Moltz. “Driving from place to place behind the wheel of one of Volvo Cars’ fully electric vehicles, we learned first-hand that they are chic, well-designed and fun to explore in. SWOODISH will transport anyone away to a calm, serene Sweden of the mind.”

 

The SWOODISH candle will be available for a limited time for consumer purchase in select global markets at dsanddurga.com and VolvoCarSwoodish.com. The sales of this new candle will also help to benefit the environment, with Volvo Cars donating a portion of the proceeds to the Volvo For Life Fund partner One Tree Planted, supporting their mission to plant trees, restore forests, and encourage biodiversity.
